3 LSU students rooting against LSU?
That's the part of your post I can't get my head around, LOL
My family is also second generation Irish Catholic (my grandparents were immigrants). Grandpa died very young, so idk if he was into college football... but my dad and bro were/are ND fans. (Not to the point of traveling, but TV fans for sure). I rooted for ND growing up - particularly remember the Cotton Bowl comeback in 79 with Joe Montana. ND was "WE" then for me.
Three years later, I was a VT student. My first VT game was a close loss to Miami in 1982 (game where Jim Kelly broke his arm). VT almost made a bowl bid that year - all they had to do was beat Vandy on the road. "We" (VT) lost by 45 points. To Vandy. And somehow it happened. I put my school over my childhood team. My father and brother attended colleges without a Division 1-A football team so I guess they never faced my choice. But somehow... that 7-4 VT team was my team. I can't imagine had I gone to LSU that I would have forsaken a team like that LOL! I don't "hate" ND... but as a VT fan who has ND family members that never attended that school... I will admit I get tired of hearing about them and maybe prefer that they lose on occasion, LOL. Once I went to VT, ND became "THEM" instead of "WE".
Thanks for your great post! No judgements from me. I think we can both agree, a person can have only one "WE" :)
